Abstract
The North Eastern Region of India is richly endowed by nature with enormous potentiality for power generation. There are huge reserves for hydelpower potentiality in the hills of Meghalaya, N. C. and Mikir Hills in Assam and sub-Himalayan ranges, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, which can be economically tapped to generate about 12,000 MW.
There are huge deposits of rich coal in the coal fields of Margherita(Assam) and Garo Hills (Meghalaya). The oil fields in Upper Assam area are supplying huge quantities of petroleum and natural gas. The natural gas from these oil fields is being utilised in production of petrochemicals, fertilizers and power generation.
