Abstract
The present Report on the Evaluation Study of Rural Industries Projects is of current importance in view of the renewed emphasis on rural development and decentralisation of economic activity. This Study covered 26 Rural Industries Projects out of a total of 45 initiated during the Fourth Five Year Plan. The objectives of the Study were: (a) how the Programme had been planned and administered: (b) how much the various components of the Programme had contributed to the achievement of the broad objectives of the Programme and (c) to what extent had the various components of the Programme benefited the local people. The preparation of industries potential surveys, the organisation of the training of craftsmen and artisans, the expansion of employment opportunities with a view to enlarging their earnings through improvements in productivity were some of the main areas examined. The Report contains useful information on all these aspects and suggests the future lines of action.
