Abstract

A new era of liberation of the colonies followed the Second World War, and India became free in 1947. An interesting aspect of the post colonial period was the attempt to change the impediments, arising from a defective agrarian structure, to production and social justice. In this context the major land reform measures adopted in India included (1) abolition of the feudal system; (2) tenancy reform measures; (3) ceiling on land holdings; (4) consolidation of land holdings.
