Abstract

The Planning Commission intimated, however, that the Central assistance for Punjab in 1966-67 would not be even at the same level as in 1965-66 (Rs 38.5 crore) but would be only Rs 33 crore. As regards the contribution of the State towards the 1966-67 Plan, the estimate was of the order of Rs 22 crore. As a result, Annual Plan proposals for Rs 55.5 crore were formulated initially, although it was realised that with such an outlay some of the priority schemes like the Beas Project and Flood Control programmes would suffer a set-back. After discussions with Planning Commission, however, an outlay of Rs 59.92 crore was settled for 1966-67 on the basis that if the State Government raised an additional amount of Rs 2.2 crore, the Government of India would provide a matching contribution as additional Central assistance over and above Rs 33 crore.
