Abstract

Meghalaya has a population of 17,74,778 (1991—Census) distributed over ?n area of approximately 22,500 Sq. Kms. the gross cropped area is 2. ^0 lakh hectares (provisional) while the net cropped area is 1.98 lakh hectares. A target of gross cropped area 2.47 lakh hectares and net ctopped area of 2.00 lakh hectares is proposed for the year 1995-96 against the antcipated [gross cropped area of 2.40 lakh hectares during 1994-95. The approved outlay for the 8th Five year Plan for total Agriculture Sector is Rs. 3,320,00 lakhs, the approved outlay in the first year of the Plan (1992-93) was Rs. 964.00 lakhs (inclding Rs. 20 lakhs of S. D. Grant).
