dc.description.abstractGUJARAT State has an area of 196024 Sq. kms - 5.96 percent of that of the Indian Union. Its population according to the 1981 census is 3.41 crores, forming 4.97 percent of the Country's population and is predominantly rural - 68.90 percent. The average density of population is 174 per sq.km. The Scheduled Castes account for 7.15 percent and the Scheduled Tribes for another 14.23 percent of the total population of 3.41 crores, according to the 1981 census.
