Abstract

The Ministry of Production was formed on the 13th May, 1952 by the bifurcation of the late Ministry of Works, Production and Supply into two separate Ministries, vi., the Ministry of Works Housing and Supply and the Ministry of Production. Section I—Responsibilities and Functions of KHE Ministry The principal responsibilities of the Ministry of Production relate to (1) all Government industrial undertakings, excluding those specifically allocated to any other Ministry, (2) Production and distribution of Salt, (3) Production and distribution of Coal, and (4) Oil refineries. Appendix I gives the details of the functions of the Ministry. The Production Ministry has been set up for promoting the rapid industrialisation of the country by careful planning and by the active and progressive participation by the State in the creation of new industrial undertakings in certain basic industries of national importance, keeping in view the objective of the Industrial Policy Resolution of April 1948, and the fact that rapid development of basic industries in the public sector would stimulate the simultaneous and coordinated development in the private sector.
