dc.description.abstractThe population of the State is heterogeneous composed of people speaking distinctive languages and practising divergent customs and traditions. Out of 131 Development Blocks in the State, the population of Schedule Tribes is more than 50% in 55 Blocks covering about 4,000 villages. The different linguistic groups in the State includes Bodos, Manipuris, Bishnupriyas, imashas, Mizos, Carbis, Santhalies, Nepalies etc. in addition to large number of emigrant Muslims. The education policy of the State will naturally have to take into account of this heterogeneous nature of the population.
