Report of the Working Group on Inland Water Transport for the Tenth Five Year Plan

Abstract

Inland Water Transport is an economic, fuel-efficient and environmental friendly mode of transport but a lot still needs to be done to increase the share of Inland Water Transport in the total movement of inland cargo in the country. Efforts in this direction till now have only been nominal. Hence while finalizing the 10th Five Year Plan, it is important to recognize the point that substantial efforts have to be made within a limited time frame to create the basis infrastructure so that the share of this mode of transport can substantially improve from the present position of less that 1%.
