| dc.description.abstract | India has undergone a profound transformation over the past six decades across political, economic, social, technological, and demographic dimensions, necessitating a fundamental evolution in governance and national development strategies. Recognizing the limitations of the erstwhile Planning Commission, the Government of India established NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) to serve as a dynamic catalyst for development, emphasizing cooperative federalism, strategic policy guidance, and knowledge-driven governance. This shift reflects India’s demographic expansion, burgeoning urban population, and a young workforce with evolving aspirations, alongside an economy that has expanded over a hundredfold and witnessed a significant reduction in agriculture’s share of GDP. The growing influence of private enterprise and globalization demands that government transition from a command-and-control role to one that nurtures an enabling environment for entrepreneurship while focusing resources on public welfare and essential entitlements. States have emerged as key drivers of national progress, requiring flexibility and localized policy solutions rather than a centralized one-size-fits-all approach. Technological advancements and access to information have further integrated India’s regions, enhanced transparency, and improved efficiency in governance. Acknowledging these changing realities, experts and former leaders have emphasized the need to rethink institutional frameworks, ensuring alignment with contemporary economic, social, and global contexts. NITI Aayog embodies this vision, aiming to foster holistic development, implement innovative strategies, monitor progress, and act as a knowledge hub and think tank, thereby transforming India’s developmental agenda while remaining anchored in constitutional principles and civilizational ethos. | |
