Abstract

The river Brahmaputra is fed through out the year with a number of tributaries flowing from the Sub- Himalayan ranges from the north and from the southern hills. the north bank tributaries of the river Brahmaputra are comparatively of short length. These tributaries frequently change their courses causing immense harm to the state. the south bank tributaries are comparatively less harmful and fed mostly by monsoon rain. Likewise the Barak Valley river is fed by a number of tributaries mainly coming out from the Mizo Hills, North Cachar Hills and the Jayantia Hills of Meghalaya. These tributaries are also monsoon rainfed.
