Abstract
The population of the Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka as per the 1971 census is 2,31,268 as against a total population of 1,92,096 in 1961. There was an increase of 20.4 per cent during the decade. The percentage of Scheduled Tribe population to the total population of the state is 0.7 per cent. The population of Scheduled Tribes is scattered in many parts of the state, but concentrated mainly in the district of Mysore, Kodagu(Coorg), Dakshine Kannada(South Karara) and Chickmagalur.
