Abstract

Andhra Pradesh State has an area of 2.77 lakh sq.kms. and a population of 53.5 million according to the 1981 Census. It ranks as the fifth largest State both in terms of area and population in the Indian Union. The State is popularly and rather appropriately referred to as the 'River State'. The major as well as the minor rivers that flow through the State number 34. The State has a long coastline of 960 Km.
