Study of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe

Abstract

The Constitution has made it obligatory for the State to take special measures for the social, economic and political advancement of the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes. Therefore, increasing resources have been provided in the successive five-year plans for promoting their welfare. As against a provision of Rs.39 crores for the First Plan, the provision in the Draft Fifth Plan is of the order of Rs.255 crores. Of the many schemes envisaged for their socio-economic development, a very large amount has been allocated for awarding Post- Matric Scholarships in recognition of the Importance, of educational development of these communities in the strategy for their socio-economic amelioration.
