dc.description.abstract81% of the State’s population lives in the rural areas, of which 90% depend directly or indirectly on agricultural pursuits for their livelihood. Efforts were thus made to raise off-take of chemical fertilisers, extend coverage of high yielding varieties of seeds, increase distribution of high yielding variety seeds, provide plant protection material, raise irrigation potential, introduce dryland farming, raise commercial crops such as fruits, mushrooms and saffron in non-conventional areas. University of Agriculture Sciences was also set up in the State during 1981-82.
