Abstract

The Gross cropped area during 1993-94 decreased marginally from 127.54 lakh, hects. in 1992-93 to 126.88 lakhs hects. in 1993-94. Similarly, the area under food crops also decreased from 82.36 lakhs hects.in 1992-93 to 81.60 lakh hectares during 1993-94. For the current year quick departmental estimates indicate that the area covered during Kharif 1994 is of the order of 73.12 lakhs hectares whereas an area of about 31.61 lakh hectares is estimated to be covered during Rabi i.e. totally 104.73 lakh hectares as against the normal area of about 119.21 lakh hectares.
