Abstract

The monasteries, some of which (like Hemis Gompa) are very famous, the Lama Buddhist culture and the beautiful paintings, sculptures and ancient books preserved in the monasteries are an additional source of attraction to the tourists. Ladakh has become such a popular tourist destination, especially for the foreigners, that in almost every issue of Swagat and Jet Wings, issued by Indian Airlines and Jet Airways respectively, there is an article on some aspect of Ladakh and its people.
