Abstract
Tripura, a State of great antiquity lies to the south west of Assam and is surrounded by East Bengal almost on all sides except an outlet by the north-eastern side through Cachar District of Assam, for keeping a link with rest of India. The Princely State Tripura, until 14th October, 1949, was integrated with Indian Union as a Part C State, when it came under the direct administrative control of Government of India with its full heritage and culture and with the, passing of the re—organisation of States Act, 1956 it became a Union Territory. This Territory is almost bottled up between Sylhet of East Bengal and Cachar District of Assam to the north. It is bounded on the east by the Lushai Hill Tracts of Assam and Chittagong Hill Tracts of East Bengal and on the south and west by East Bengal.
