Abstract

Total area under cereals and pulses in U.P. is 437.23 lakh acres. Irrigation facilities arc available to 50 per cent of the area under wheat and barley, kharif crops in general arc cither irrigated or have assured rainfall. Out of 19.31 lakh acres under peas 14.01 lakhs acres are irrigated. Thus the scope for extension of intensive practices exists for the entire kharif area and for over 50 per cent of the area under rabi cereals and pulses.
