Abstract

The target of foodgrains production was fixed at 48.00 lakh tonnes for 1977-78 out of which 34.00 lakh tonnes were planned for kharif and 14.00 lakh tones for rabi season. However, due to the untimely and incessant heavy rains the crops were badly affected. The estimate of production for kharif is placed at around 28.00 lakh tonnes only. Efforts are made to take the rabi/summer production up to 16 lakh tonnes. The annual production of foodgrains is expected to reach 44.00 lakh tonnes.
