With an annual outlay of about Rs.2623 crore, the major poverty alleviation wage employment programme of Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY) is completing three years of its operation on March 31, 1992. 2. With a view to assessing the extent to which the persons from the target group got employment, the types of assets created, arrangements made for their maintenance, and the problems faced in the implementation of the Yojana, the Programme Evaluation Organisation (PEO), at the instance of the Planning Commission undertook a Quick Study of the JRY. 3. Although JRY has been implemented in all the 32 States and Union Territories, an analysis of 43rd round of NSSO Survey (1987-88) revealed that a little over 90 percent of the rural poor below poverty line, live in the 10 major States.
