Abstract

The Xth Plan period has seen a great deal of activity in the field of generation in the state. Various surveys and studies were conducted all over the state and potential sites suitable for hydro-electric projects have been identified. It has been the policy of the state govt, to develop the hydro-electric potential of the state to the fullest and keeping in line with this policy, 25 projects with total installed capacity of 4687 MW have been awarded to developers; public and private. Projects of capacities above 25 MW and up to 100 MW have been awarded to private developers (IPPs). Projects above 100 MW have been awarded to NHPC and private developers. Projects above 100 MW awarded to private developers (IPPs) are joint venture projects (public-private partnership) where state will have 26% equity.
