Draft Eight Five Year Plan(1990-95) North Eastern Council

Abstract

The North Eastern Region is predominantly a tribal area and is economically more backward than other regions in terms of key development indicators. To promote accelerated and balanced socio-economic development of this region the North Eastern Council was constituted in 1971 under the North Eastern Council Act. Though NEC was envisaged as an Advisory Body in the North Eastern Council Act, it has evolved into an advisory, planning, funding and developmental body. It focuses on matters in which some or all of the States represented in the Council or the Union and one or more of the States represented in the Council have a common interest.
