dc.description.abstractThe U.P. Hills comprise of 8 districts, viz, Nainital Almora and Pithoragarh (3) in Kumaon Division and Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Dehradun (5) in Garhwal Division. The hill region covers an area of 51,125 Sq. Km. or 17.4 per cent of the total area of U.P. and has a population of 48.36 lakh according to census of 1981 which is 4.3 per cent of the total population of the State. The average density of the population is 95 persons per sq. Km. as compared to the average of 377 of the State.
