Report of the Working Group on Power

Abstract

The Sixth Plan Power programme, conceived with a bold strategy and an ambitious target, has traversed four years, constrained by several problems and issues and yet keeping its sights towards the basic objectives set out in the Plan. While it has not been possible to realise fully some of the targets, the achievements in absolute terms represent a significant step towards improving the power supply situation in different parts of the country. The last year of the Plan has started with a note of caution and purpose to maximise the achievements during the Plan period. The preliminary exercises for evolving a strategy for power development and formulation of the power programme in the Seventh Plan have been recently initiated.
