dc.description.abstractThe district of Sholapur comprises an area of 5681.8 square miles or about 37 lakhs of acres. According to the census of 1951, the population of the District is 15,05,316 distributed in 934 villages, and 14 towns and cities, the biggest city being Sholapur with a population of 2,77,087. the population is predominantly rural and agricultural. the density of population per square mile is 264, which is quite high, compared to other adjoining Districts. There are 11 Talukas in the district viz. Akalkot, Barsi, Karmala, Madha, Malshiras, Mangalwcdha, Mohol, North Sholapur, Pandharpur, Sangola and South Sholapur.
