Abstract

Under National Policy of Education 1986, Government of India has formulated a Central Scheme for Restructuring and Re-organization of Teacher Education. Under this Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Government of Andhra Pradesh has upgraded 23 Teacher Training Institutes as District Institutes of Education and Training and one Tribal Teachers Training Institute at Utnoor as Sub-DIET in a phased manner with 100% central assistance. The basic objective of the scheme is to improve the facilities for pre-service and in-service teacher training for elementary education. An amount of Rs.7578.35 lakhs has been provided in the Tenth Five Year Plan under the scheme. It is proposed to train 23000 teachers during the Tenth Five Year Plan. An amount of Rs.2212.03 lakhs has been proposed during 2006-07.
