dc.description.abstractThe Hill Areas of Assam comprise of the two autonomous Hill districts viz Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills. Die population of the two hill districts of Assam is 4.55 lakhs (1971 census) with an area of 15,222 square Kilometre. The density of population is 30 persons per square kilometre (37 persons per square k.m. in Karbi Anglong and 16 persons per sq.km. in North Cachar Hills), Tribal population constitutes 57.7% and scheduled caste 2.3% of the total population of the two hill districts of Assam.
