Abstract

The quality of airport infrastructure has a direct bearing on improving connectivity within the country at economic costs, besides enhancing the international competitiveness of the economy as well as the inflow of foreign investment. The civil aviation sector has witnessed a significant metamorphosis during the Eleventh Plan period, especially with the increase in passenger traffic following the ‘open sky’ policy as well as the development of the airport infrastructure comprising four new airports built through Public Private Partnership (PPP), viz. Delhi, and Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad; upgradation of the metro airports at Chennai and Kolkata by the Airport Authority of India (AAI); and the development of several non-metro airports by AAI.
