Eastern Region Transport Survey Volume II the Economic Base

Abstract

This transport survey was undertaken by a special organisation set up at Calcutta with personnel provided in accordance with their special interests by the Planning Commission and the Ministries concerned. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development were good enough to make available the assistance of a group of experienced transport specialists under the leadership of Dr. Ralph J. Watkins who worked for a period of about 20 months as an integral part of the Regional Transport Survey Organisation. The present volume on "The Economic Base" has been prepared by the Director with assistance and collaboration, particularly in analysis and documentation, by Dr. Ranjit Sau, Shri Ishwar Prasad and other members of the economic staff. In assembling the various data, I received valuable suggestions and guidance from Dr. Ralph J. Watkins, transport economist on the World Bank team.
