Revised Second Five-Year Plan (1956-61) (As Presented To the Planning Commission October 1955) Part II

Abstract

As is well known the State of Madhya Bharat have been formed as a result of the integration of 22 States of varying size and importance. In the old set up except for a few progressive 'State the development of Education was Generally Neglected. As a result, the general educational backwardness of the region was apparent. The democratic regime set up subsequent to the integration focused pointed attention on educational development at all stages which has been making a steady progress in the state. A provision of Bs. 2.00 corers was made for Education in the First Five Year Plan which is expected to be substantially utilized. In the First Plan, emphasis was laid on the expansion of primary education, conversion of existing primary schools into basic, expansion of Girls Education, Improvement in the quality of teachers and expansion of social education. The plan did not make any provision for the higher education sector.
