This is a case history. PEPSU is one among the several States in India where the work of agricultural extension has been taken up in right earnest. Almost all the physical and human conditions are favourable to successful extension activity. Among the new items of agricultural development sponsored by the PEPSU authorities the popularization of cultivation of superior cotton occupies an important place. Well organized extension efforts backed this programme, and the results by way of expansion of area under superior strain of cotton were very gratifying. It was very natural to inquire as to how this expansion came about, how did it affect the economy of the place, what light did it throw on the different methods of promoting improvements and how did the people react to the appeal before, during and after the intensive effort at promoting agricultural improvements.
