The economy of the State is far below the level of self-sustenance. This is a great handicap to the viable expansion of the Power Sector as well. The situation will continue atleast until the end of the century, if not beyond. It is therefore necessary for the State Generation Sector to aim at self-sufficiency. The shortage by 2000-01 A.D. assuming the forecast of demand of CEA, will be 661 MW. To meet this shortage, 1200 MW of extra installed capacity will be required.
