Abstract
At the beginning of the First Five Year Plan the total installed capacity of the power stations was 13000 K.W. This is likely to rise to 41000 K.W. by the end of 1955-56. Progress-has not been remarkable owing to the delayed sanction for the development of Thermal Power Stations Scheme. This sanction was received in March, 1554. Similarly, due to the imposition of the abeyance condition by the Planning Commission the Bhakra -Nangal Works in Rajasthan pertaining to- electric power, little progress has been possible on this giant scheme. The approval of the Bhakra Control Board was accorded as late as December, 1954. All this has necessitated the carry over of considerable provisions of finance in respect of schemes under execution in the First Plan
