| dc.description.abstract | The importance of electricity as a crucial input for economic development has been well recognised. In modern times, no socio-economic development is possible without energy. The proportion of the Plan outlays set apart for the power sector in the successive Five Year Plans reflects the concern of the planners in this regard. Despite the growth that the electricity industry has registered over the years, power supply interruptions, power shortages and poor voltage conditions have become a commonplace experience throughout the country. Power shortages have had a debilitating impact on the agriculture and industry and the non-availability of sufficient power is going to be the single most critical constraint for the overall development in many parts of the country in the coming years. | |
