Report on Small Industrial Establishments in Punjab

Abstract

Industrial Statistics are essential for the Govt., research scholars and other agencies connected with the planning and development of industry. Statistics relating to industrial units registered under the Factories Act, 1948 are collected regularly by Director National Sample Survey Organisation, Govt, of India under Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) and are made available through their publications. No data regarding un-registered sector of industries are, however, available and the State Government feels handicapped in framing development policies relating to this sector of industry. In order to fill this gap in statistics, Punjab Govt., implemented, a plan scheme in October, 1975 to conduct a house to house survey and list all the industrial units in the un-registered industries sector in the urban areas of the State. During the Survey (October, 1975 to May, 1977) all the 108 towns of the State were covered and some essential primary data were collected from the un-registered industrial units on the basis of this survey and district wise directories were compiled.
