dc.description.abstractThus it appears that in addition to these registered job seekers, there are a vast number of unregistered ones, especially in the rural areas with little or no gainful work and with no opportunity for registration or possibility of work. Even the estimates of unemployment and under-employment made on the basis of the National Sample Survey, 25th Round (1971) indicates that 60% of the rural working force is under employed. This hypothesis is best illustrated by the fact that 86,340 persons out of the total working population are agricultural labourers.
