Abstract
Area and population in comparison to all Assam - According to the 1971 census data, the two autonomous hill districts of Assam - Mikir Hills and North Cochar Hills - cover 19.3% of the total geographical area and 3.11% of the total population of Assam. As against the all Assam density of population of 150 per sq.k.m ., the density of population in the two hill districts is only 30 per sq,k .m. and in N. C. Hills it is as low as 16 per sq.k.m.
