dc.description.abstractThe State of Andhra Pradesh formed in 1956 comprising most of the Telugu speaking people has an area of 2.75 lakh Sq. Kms., and a population of 66.5 million according to 1991 Census. It ranks as the fifth largest State both in terms of area and population in the Indian Union. It is referred to as the river State because the major rivers viz., Krishna, Godavari, Tungabhadra, Pennar and Nagavali flow through the State. A major part of the State is covered with red soils with relatively the State is covered to retain moisture. The normal annual rain fall ranges from about 54 Cm., in Anantapur to 114 Cm., in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts. Apart from being rich in water resources it is well endowed in minerals particularly Coal, Limestone, Barytes, Manganese and China Clay.
