Abstract

Agriculture contributes a major part in the State economy and Agriculture development is the prime consideration of the Govt. for making canonical changes, in the State through the Small, Marginal and Landless farmers . More than 90% of the area under Agriculture is rain fed. About 82% of the cultivable land belonging to Small and Marginal Farmers. The average size of operational holding in the State is 1.31 hectare. The highest size being 2.04 hectare. Rica is the main crop of all districts which covered about 70% of the gross cropped area and about 94 P.C. of the total area under fine-grained. The other important crops are Jute, Mustard, Sugar cane, Wheat, Vegetables and fruits . The Agriculture contribute about 36 P.C. of GDP in the State
