Abstract

Manipur is a hilly state in the eastern side of India, It has an area of 22,356 sq.km., an area which constitutes 0.7 per cent only of the total land surface of the Indian. Union and is one of the smallest states in India. the state by its topographical, structure is not only a beautiful mountainous state but also famous for her dances, handicrafts and salubrious climate. It is this mountainous structure that provides the state its natural scenic beauty but on the other hand it poses problems of economic development for a pretty long time. It is almost rectangular in shape with a precious valley encircled by mountain ranges. This small valley spreads over an area of 1843 sq.km, which is only about 9 per cent of the total area of the state.
