Mid Term Appraisal for Five Year Plan 1997-2002 State Planning Commission

Abstract

Seasonal conditions and rainfall were normal during the first two years of the Plan. Release of water from Mettur reservoir for irrigation on scheduled dates helped the farmers. Government has taken a massive desilting operation in Cauvery delta, which paved way for improving the irrigation system in delta region. The effort of the Government has smoothened the flow of water in rivers and channels and mitigated the hardship caused by floods to farmers in the Cauvery delta area, besides improving the economy of the delta region.
