dc.description.abstractRajasthan with an area of 3.42 lakh sq. Kms. is the second largest State in the country. It has long international frontier with Pakistan and is adjacent to the States of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Prior to integration, Rajasthan was a conglomeration of 22 princely States and centrally administered area of Ajmer, varying in size, population, administrative efficiency and socio-economic development. After independence, the process of integration of princely States began in 1948 and the final shape of the present State was effected by the merger of Ajmer and reorganisation of States in 1956.
