dc.description.abstractThe 1981 census shows that decennial growth of population in this Territory is the third highest among all States/union Territory of the country. The density of population on the basis of 1981 census is 4,194 persons per sq. km. which is the highest in the country. in rural area of the Territory, the density of the population as per 1981 census is 498 persons per sq.km. The SC population in 1981 was 11.22 lakhs. The literacy percentage which was ,56.61% in 1971 had risen to 61.5% in 1981.
